What do You use to Search the Web?

I’ve used Google for as long as I can remember knowing Google. I started using computers around the age of four (1998) and was given Internet privileges a few years after. I remember using Yahoo or MSN to search when I started out getting to know the Web. Then I found Google, and my family made the switch.

What do You use to Search the Web?

My parents have iGoogle set as their homepage. I prefer about:blank, but we’re getting off-topic. Anyways, let me ask you a question. Would you rather use Google to search, or use a search engine that combines results from Google, Yahoo, Live, and Ask.com? I made the switch today to Dogpile.com and by switch I mean I made it the default search engine in Firefox. I also downloaded the Arfie widget not only for the convenient search feature but the live Search Spy list, which tells me what people have searched for.

Now, if you do some browsing on Infospace, the company that operates Dogpile, you’ll find that they operate three other search engines: MetaCrawler, WebCrawler, and WebFetch. All of the engines operated by Infospace use metasearch technology, which means it combines the results from top search engines like Google and Yahoo to form more relevant results. For the most part it’s really just a matter of which site design you like better as they all provide practically the same results, except for WebFetch, which I believe is a UK search engine. I’m going to stick with Dogpile as I like it’s design and it’s awesome mascot.
